And also know that through the times that Carol was at risk and all of you were checking in on her, the total page visits on the blog were 5,279 -- wow!
Here's a pic of her last week with Grand daughter Mila and Dad Nick.
My sister Carol's journey back from a bad car wreck
One day into the news of my sister Carol having been in a bad car accident yesterday, Saturday January 7th 2012, I have been overwhelmed by everyone who has gotten in touch looking for details and offering love and related input. This blog intends to make the news on her recovery available so that everyone interested can be connected to her and our family situation on a regular basis. Thank you for being one of them -- support speeds recovery.

As I begin work on a new unrelated old barns blog the stats on Carol's blog are still there in the account and I see that 25 people have clicked-in in the past month, so I'll provide an update. I haven't visited the blog in quite a while. Thanks to anyone still staying in touch on it.
Carol has ended up pretty darned good as things end up after all she went through. We are blessed to be able to tell the story about her wreck January 7, 2012 with her still being here with us. So many families have such harder stories to tell as they've lost family members to similar circumstances -- but we got lucky. And the guy that hit her still has five more years in prison for it.
All is well with Carol and the hard times of her recovery have passed. She is back to an active lifestyle and while it seems there might always be some kind of a twinge for her from the trauma her body suffered, we have nothing but to celebrate and be happy about her survival.
Husband Butch is functioning but continues to be nagged by his crushed ankle and it's obvious that it will be a factor for him and us forever. Modern medicine helps, but that story continues and will go on for a while. More later on it all as time passes.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that all of the original blog posts from Carol's blog are still saved and available, so if you hear of any other families who are challenged with their own traumas feel free to pass the blog along to them to show them how things can work out for the best, although let me clear that through Carol first before you do that -- more later on it.
Otherwise, if you'd like to visit the new old barns blog I mentioned you can find it at the following link and feel free to pass it along and remember, if you weren't born or conceived in a barn, some of your ancestors probably were!

Thank You Celebration!
Written Jul 6, 2012 3:20pm by Nocek Family and Friends
Hello Everyone! As
Butch mentioned in his last post, the Nocek family wants to thank all
of you who so generously supported our family and me with prayers, food,
love and donations after my accident. I truly would not have done as well as I did without you. (The doctors were baffled at my progress, but they don’t know all of you!) So,
help us celebrate our good fortune to have you as friends by joining us
for an open house on July 28. You are welcome any time after 1:00 and
may stay as long as you wish. Bring your bathing suit and towel if you wish to swim, and portable lawn chairs if you have any. Also, life jackets for your little ones if you would like them to go out on the boat. We are looking forward to seeing you and celebrate having you in our lives! So we may plan appropriately, please drop us an RSVP at the following email if you will be able to stop by: butchnocek@live.com See you soon!! Carol and Butch

Carol and Butch's Comeback Saturday 4/28/12
UPDATE
The biggest news of late is that Carol is actually returning to her classroom on Monday! Hard to believe, but she's going to start with half-days and transition into full days in a couple of weeks. It's going to be a big effort for her but she's ready to take it on.
Butch continues to heal and every day is one more down on the way to being full time vertical again.
I asked Carol today how she's liking her new car and she said she really appreciates it but also misses her old car, the 97 Camaro -- she really did love that car and they looked good together.
Otherwise, Spring is trying for all of us and here we are in 2012. Our best wishes to all -- stay tuned.

Carol and Butc's Comeback Monday 4/23/2012
UPDATE
Carol and Butch went in to Froedtert today for regular follow up exams. Carol is fine and rocking the house, Butch had his suspicions confirmed that there might be an infection percolating in his incision so they go back in tomorrow morning at 7:15 to have his incision opened back up and have some preventative maintenance done --- yikes. No crisis, just a 'better-safe-than-sorry' procedure. Not sure how long he might have to stay, guessing not long. The nature of his injury simply commands a long heal time and here's another hospital/surgery moment in it all.
Otherwise all well -- will continue to post as appropriate but luckily the news is getting slim as both are officially on the mend, so the posts will reflect that with regards to frequency.
What a ride, eh? But again, lucky us.
Peace and love to all.

Carol and Butch's Comeback Friday 4/20/12
UPDATE
Things continue to settle, mainly for Carol -- she confirmed today that she is now crutch-free! She's getting around pretty darned well and is making it happen like we knew she would. She actually has plans of getting back into her classroom before the end of the school year and details are being talked through.
Butch will be in the healing holding pattern for a while yet. But with Carol dropping him off in her new car he does manage to get in to work a little bit to keep things moving but after a couple of hours he has to get horizontal again to ease the pain. Today he said he's seen the X-Rays from before and after surgery and things are just a mess down around his ankle. Much damage and many screws, plates etc. involved in the fix -- hence the long heal time. The good news is he has just begun therapy too, so things will advance and proceed as the days and some weeks tick by while he works through rehab.
In the meantime he's totally in touch and happening from the couch via laptop etc., he just has to stay put. He's also looking really good but he just has to rest the leg in the meantime. And he says yes, it still just plain really hurts a lot and will for a while yet. Next week the therapists said they're going to start working his toes -- he's not looking forward to that. Daughter Katie has been totally in touch and helping and tending to her Dad's healing ankle and foot a TON -- great job, Kate. Daughter Amy and fiance Nick are amazing good as well -- good job all.
Will keep you all in the loop as things proceed and at the moment that's the news. Our family best to all and stay tuned -- more later -- below are a few pics of Mom helping paint the fence around Butch and Carol's garden a couple seasons back and a bonus photo of Mom shopping in town during a cold weather visit a while back.
Yep,
Tom

Carol and Butch's Comeback Thursday 4/12/2012
UPDATE
Listen to this -- Carol got a new car this week! After much searching and looking and everything else they found a real nice '05 Cadillac STS for her. She's been doing better and better getting around and now she has her new ride -- check it out!
Here she's just back from a demo ride with her good friend Diane. Diane is Carol's good friend from our early days here on Lake Como. Her family was a couple of doors down the lake towards Mar's and she and Carol are friends from way back then when we were kids. Diane was an absolutely immediately amazing friend-in-attendance in Carol's early moments of trauma and since. From the family, love ya, Di ----
Oh yeah
When I stopped by today around 6pm Carol was at the kitchen sink, sans crutches, doing some dishes etc. and it was so good to see her standing there on her own. She can move around pretty freely but still has to be careful. She said today was her first day of actually doing something on a trip to town instead of just hobbling along while they got out of the house and went wherever just to do something.
Butchie is still sidelined but gets better and was sitting up on the couch tearing into his brother's laptop on the living room table to troubleshoot it at the time -- he's good at that kind of thing. He improves but still has heal time ahead of him. And of course he's pushing it as we knew he would.
Carol mentioned the big pic today -- she's just hitting the 3-month mark since her final Intensive Care surgery back in early January. The docs told her this would be the stepping off point to normal life coming back into view -- and it is -- fantastic! Butch is about to hit the 6-week mark since his surgery, which is another benchmark that's bringing some overall advance to him as well.
In the meantime I snagged a bit of video of the Devil cat in the road after catching Carol and Diane in the new car. Let's see if it works -- somebody please lemme know --
More later -- glad to be at this point ---
